Remember the LORD your God...

"... remember this and keep it firmly in mind: The LORD is God both in heaven and on earth, and there is no other." Deuteronomy 4:39

"When you have eaten your fill... be careful not to forget the LORD... " Deuteronomy 6:11-12

"Remember how the LORD your God led you through the wilderness... " Deuteronomy 8:2

"Beware that in your plenty you do not forget the LORD your God and disobey his commands, regulations, and decrees..." Deuteronomy 8:11

"Do not become proud at that time and forget the LORD your God, who rescued you from slavery..." Deuteronomy 8:14

"Remember the LORD your God. He is the one who gives you power to be sucessful..." Deuteronomy 8:18

"... If you ever forget the LORD your God and follow other gods..., you will certainly be destroyed." Deuteronomy 8:19

Moses spoke these words to the Israelites as their forty years in the wilderness were ending, and as they were preparing to enter Canaan. Moses was exhorting them to remember that it is God who was the one who had led them out of slavery and into prosperity... to always remain faithful to Him even after they had become "full and prosperous and (had) built fine homes to live in", and when their "flocks and herds (had) become very large and (their) silver and gold (had) multiplied along with everything else."

I, just like the Israelites, have the tendency to forget that God is the ultimate provider. How easy it is to become proud and think that all my achievements and possessions are my own, when it is actually God who has provided. I must be careful to remember... that the LORD is my God.
